WELCOME

Gilles Rossel explores the great narratives of the Bible through a contemporary, colorful, and accessible body of work. His paintings, drawings, videos, and installations invite us to look at biblical texts differently, to discover their symbols, and to consider their relevance today.

When Bible stories become images

The Bible contains stories, visions, symbols, and words that have endured through the centuries. Gilles Rossel gives them visual form through paintings, illustrations, videos, and installations.

His work does not simply seek to represent texts. He proposes to tell their stories, explain them, and make them accessible through images.

From the Creation described in Genesis to the visions of the Apocalypse, from the New Testament to near-death experiences, each series develops a unique artistic and spiritual reflection.

Paintings, drawings, videos and installations

Paintings and drawings

Oil, acrylic, alkyd, gouache, ink and mixed media are used to create original works inspired by biblical texts, light, the sky and the imagination.

Videos and animations

The videos allow Gilles Rossel to present his paintings, explain the texts that inspired them, and answer various questions about the Bible and the Christian faith. He has notably produced a series on Genesis as well as numerous short videos on parables and questions of faith.

Digital images

A work focused on light and hope

Not all of Gilles Rossel's works directly depict a biblical story. Some series explore more freely light, sky, shapes, colors, gardens, hands, hearts, and human relationships.

Skies

"What I prefer is painting the light and making sure that even the shadows are illuminated."

The paintings in the Skies series depict clouds, birds, colors and horizons where light always occupies a central place.

Images to dream about

Hearts, hands, shapes, visual scents, gardens and friendships compose a freer, more poetic and colorful universe.

"I made flowers grow at the tips of my paintbrushes."

Seeing, understanding, and meditating on biblical texts in a new way

Images sometimes allow us to enter into a text in a way other than through words.

By combining artworks, biblical quotations, commentaries, and explanatory videos, Gilles Rossel offers several levels of interpretation. Visitors can simply contemplate an image, discover the passage that inspired it, or delve deeper into the artist's ideas.

His creations are aimed at art lovers, people interested in the Bible, Christian communities, exhibition organizers and anyone wishing to discover a visual and contemporary approach to biblical stories.
